«Narcissism in the media using television as an example»

Taking as point of departure the myth of Narcissus, and transferring the latter to the subject and its relationship to the medium, the Hamburg-based group of women artists -Innen this time used the TV medium to transport their theses relating to that very medium. Unlike in the previous multimedia performance (‘Narzismus in den Medien am Beispiel Fernsehen 1.1 Das Begehren', Hamburg, Munich, Zurich, 1993-94), the theories are presented not in abstract, didactic fashion, but in the form of TV programmes, namely as game shows. The ‘Narcissism Game', the ‘Ego Idealization Game', the ‘Trauma Game' and the ‘Disappointment Game' offer callers a range of multiple-choice prefabricated answers. Pre-produced computer animations, trailers and a specially composed noise/music track are fed into to the studio during the game shows.
