Karl Sims
«Panspermia»
Panspermia describes a theory founded on the possibility of life spreading through outer space in the form of spores and germs. In this manner, distances between galaxies can be overcome. Hailed in its time for being so spectacularly shot, Sims’ animation, only two minutes in length, led its viewers through the dramatically time-sequenced and accelerated lifecycle of an aggressive and reproducing, intergalactic life-form. «Panspermia» shows three-dimensionally rendered forests and plantlike structures of great complexity, produced by principles of chance. Karl Sims is responsible for the software and film animation calculated on a Connection Machine CM-2.
